Network discovery at the Cabinet Office

The Public Services Network (PSN) is the government’s high performance network that enables public sector organisations to work together. With multiple suppliers assured to the same high security standard, this shared resource is a true collaboration between industry and government. Listed as one of thirteen sectors on the UK’s Critical National Infrastructure, the PSN is critical to daily operational life in the UK.

Having been awarded the contract in February 2020 to advise the Cabinet Office (sponsored by NCSC) how to identify which services are hosted or consumed via the PSN , MIC Solutions Ltd began the inital engagement with central Governament Departments, Local Authorities and Suppliers. With early success reporting and verifying data in the discovery phase, our client soon felt re-assured by our unique approach. Since the middle of 2020, our company has worked directly with the Home Office, Cabinet Office, Ministry of Justice, Department for Work and Pensions, FCDO and many others, to record how their legacy applications and services are connected.

With central government’s move to adopt a cloud first policy (TCOP), we submitted High Level Roadmaps to enable planning to begin for every system to be migrated. This second phase of work is due to start in April 2021.

Over many years, our team has been advising Central Government on large-scale, complex programmes of work to ensure the services that rely on the PSN remain fully operational in order to meet the challenges and expectations of UK citizens.
